Alberta officially opened its regulated online gambling market on July 13, 2026, with 22 registered iGaming sites approved at launch. The market rests on Bill 48, which passed in spring 2025 and created the iGaming Alberta Act.
Who runs the market
Bill 48 set up the structure of the new market. It created the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) to oversee the market and named the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) as the regulator. The regulations followed in January 2026.
To operate in Alberta, a company needs three things: registration with the AGLC, a commercial agreement with AiGC, and a notice of launch from AiGC. The approved sites are listed as Registered iGaming Sites on abigaming.ca, which is the place to check before you sign up anywhere.
Rules that protect players
The minimum age for online betting in Alberta is 18. Every operator must connect to the province's central self-exclusion platform, which also covers land-based venues, so one exclusion applies across the regulated market.
Advertising must not target self-excluded people or minors, and it must not mislead. Operators also need independent RG Check certification, a responsible-gambling standard assessed from outside the company.
How the money is shared
Operators keep 80 percent of net iGaming revenue and the province takes 20 percent. On top of that, 2 percent of gross gaming revenue goes to First Nations and 1 percent goes to social responsibility programs.
For players in Alberta, the practical change is choice with a safety net: several regulated sites instead of one, a single self-exclusion system and a public list of registered sites. If a site is not on the abigaming.ca list, it is not part of Alberta's regulated market.
